Links Below are a few links that I found useful in planning my 2005 hike. No doubt there are others you can find through Google, but the information here should get you pointed in the right direction, as several of these sites have numerous additional links. http://www.cdtsociety.org/ The Continental Divide Trail Society (CDTS) is the important source of the guidebooks I believe are essential to hiking the CDT. While other groups claim to have an interest in the CDT, CDTS fights for the best locations for the trail and is the only one interested in supporting through-hikers. Join!!! http://www.phlumf.com/cdt/cdt.htm Jonathon Ley’s page on the CDT has lots of useful information but most importantly he is the source of the maps that most through-hikers use. http://mailman.backcountry.net/mailman/listinfo/cdt-l Here’s where you go to sign up for the cdt-list, an email list for persons interested in the CDT. Not a lot of posts on this list and mostly on topic, so I enjoy looking at the posts and responding occasionally. Very helpful in planning a hike. I found my sometime hiking partners, Tommy and Razzu, through the list and we joked along the way that we met in a chat room. http://delnorteresort.com/cgi-bin/cdtPostHoler A graphical look at snow conditions along the CDT. http://www.nps.gov/glac/whatsnew.htm Links to all the Glacier National Park info you need as well as several web cams that allow you to eye up the snow conditions, which can be useful if you are planning to hike there in June. http://www.spiriteaglehome.com/cdt.html Jim and Ginny Owen hiked the CDT in 1999 and I met them on the PCT in 2000. There is a lot of good information here as well as some opinions that I disagree with, which makes them important to consider because no hiker has a monopoly on the truth. http://www.trailquest.net/CDTplanning.html David Mauldin’s CDT page with lots of useful links. http://www.publiclands.org/ Good source for BLM and Forest Service maps along the CDT route. To get an idea of what the CDT is like try reading a few trail journals. Here are some links to hikers who were out there in 2005 at the same time that I was: http://www.rawhike.com/ (Doug Walsh) http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?trailname=2703 (Nomad) http://www.bobmassefan.com/cdt2005/default.html (Al Learned) http://www.trailjournals.com/buddha/ (Buddha & Zack) http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?trailname=3350 (Brian & Lisa) http://www.thehuckleberrymountain.blogspot.com/ (Bertha & Huckleberry) http://www.cdthike.com (Dave & Leslie) http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=90622 (Pony Express) http://www.d-low.com/dirList.php?dir=2005-CDT (d-low) http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?trailname=2337 (Squeaky) |
