Hike Journal
Finding the time and the inclination to keep up my journal was difficult at times, but I managed to find time to say at least something every day. On the Trail I used a Pocketmail device to record the daily journal entries. When I got somewhere with phone access, I would use the built-in modem to forward the entries as e-mail messages to my daughter LiAnna who would edit them and place them on the website.
The Pocketmail device has a tiny keyboard that I would generally try to prop on my lap to use. I usually typed at the end of the day. When the weather was decent, hordes of mosquitoes made the task a bit unpleasant, but during bad weather or later in the hike when it was cold and dark I would huddle under the tarp trying to keep my fingers warm enough to type. |
